Floral Chair Make Over

A boring dining room chair into a pretty bedroom chair. Using Annie Sloan new colour Svenska Blue and a matching Clark and Clark fabric and fresh upholstery. This is a great example of what you can learn on our Take A Seat Workshop.

Office Chest of Draws

This unusual set of drawers was spotted at a salvage show, at Tabley, Knutsford. Julia got to it first and immediately wanted it for her craft room. Made of old pine, it painted beautifully. She cleverly mixed Annie Sloan ‘Antoinette’ with ‘Pure’ adding a little more Antionette on each drawer giving an ‘ombre’ effect. The carcase of the drawers was painted using ‘Duck Egg Blue’ and soft contrast to the pale pinks. She then applied a coat of clear wax to seal it.

Duck Egg Blue and Antoinette are complimentary colours on the colour wheel. We use the colour wheel, paint chart all the time and cover it’s uses in our Annie Sloan Paint Techniques Workshop.

Cabinet with Draws

This sideboard is a classic example of 1980’s pine. Really solid, heavy and beautifully made. The varnish used has ‘yellowed’ giving it an orange pine look. I think we all have a little bit of this furniture in our house, garage, loft, shed etc. This to me is the most satisfying piece to paint. As that last bit of orange pine disappears a new piece of furniture emerges. No sanding or priming needed.

This sideboard was painted in a very strong mix of Aubusson Blue and Florence, Annie Sloan chalk paints. It only took one coat and was then finished with a coat of clear wax. The edge of the top was hand painted in Pure just to lift the colour a little.

Kitchen Make Over

How to get a ‘new’ kitchen for under £150. The doors were removed for ease of painting which saved having to empty the cupboards. They were thoroughly cleaned, mainly to remove any grease. We sanded them lightly just to provide an extra key to the doors for the paint. This is because kitchens get so much wear. They had 2 coats of Cream and then 3 coats of the clear wax over 3 days. This was to build up a strong durable, wipeable finish. It is important to remember that the wax needs a least a week to really harden and cure. The finishing touch was new handles, which compliment the country feel this kitchen now has.

We teach the correct use of the wax in all our paint workshops. We can advise and offer support in painting your own kitchen, or we can just paint it for you as in this picture.
